Goodbye 2014 – Hello 2015!

Only a few days and 2014 will be history. Looking back, it was a good year with some highlights.

2014 started with the Top vBlog 2014 Voting in February.

This community event is organized by Eric (@ericsiebert | vsphere-land.com), who puts together a link list called vLaunchpad. There you can find some hundred links to virtualization related blogs of all around the world.

And once a year you can vote for your favourite blogs. Unfortunately, running-system.com barely missed the “TOP 100 vBlogs” – it ranked at place 101 😉 nevertheless a good result.

vmw-vexpertThe next milestone in 2014 was the vExpert 2014 Announcement in April.

I was awared as a vExpert for the third time in a row. Thank you very much for this to Corey (@vcommunityguy) and the VMware Social Media & Community Team!

Another point to mention was the relaunch of the VMware User Group Austria.

vmug

For a long periode there was no VMUG in Austria. So Manfred Hofer (@fred_vbrain) and I decided to give it a try again.

It took some time, but now we have a date for our first VMUG local meeting! It will take place in February 2015 and we are really excited how many attendees we can welcome in Vienna.

VMworld2014Every year long awaited is the vShow of the year: VMworld!

I had the great fortune that VMware was so kind to provide me with a blogger pass for VMworld Barcelona.

I was able to attend all six VMworlds that had taken place in Europe till now – and to be there again in 2014 was great.

VMworld is one of the rare times, where you can meet the guys from all around around the world in person, instead communicating via Twitter, Email, Blogs & other Social Media. So this is a time I would not want to miss!

You can find all the blog posts I have published about this great event here: VMworld 2014 Barcelona.

rocketLast but not least a highlight for me personally was a look at the visitor counters of running-system.com.

When I started blogging for the german version of this blog (vmworld.net) back in 2010, I did it to have a personal knowledge base (with only a small number of visitors).

Over the years, the visitor counters of the two blogs continued to point steeply upwards – and they have reached a new record this year, too.

So it was time for a change. As it is very time consuming to blog in two languages (german and english), I have decided to focus on running-system.com.

In english I can reach more readers and – as a side effect – I can improve my language skills 🙂 VMworld.net will stay online – but all new articles will be published at running-system.com.

Thanks!

A big “Thank you” goes out to the sponsor of my blog: Veeam
By placing ads they help me covering the costs of the website – and I was lucky enough to have some money left to fullfill a little dream: a really cool Star Trek Pinball 🙂

logoBut having Veeam as a sponsor has other advantages, too. Eg. they gave me an early hands-on to their new product: Veeam Endpoint Backup.

You can read about it here or here if you want.

A big thank you goes out to the readers of my blog of course, too.

Thank you for reading!

What to expect from 2015:

Some aims for 2015 are…

  • delivering a successfull & interesting first VMUG Austria meeting
  • attend VMworld EMEA
  • to see running-system.com in the TOP 100 vBlogs
  • become a vExpert 2015
  • keep VEEAM as a blog sponsor
