If you get the error “The operation is not supported on the selected inventory objects. Check the events for the objects selected for the operation” when you try to remediate a host you will also find the following entry in the eventlogs:
“Cannot remediate host because it is a part of a HA admission control enabled Cluster”
Solution:
To patch the host you will have to disable the HA Admission Control Policy during the time you need for the update. To do so just click right at your cluster – Edit Settings – vSphere HA:
Actually you don’t have to modify cluster settings – after you put the host in maintenance mode and do a remediate select in the remediation dialog setings Disable HA Admission Control and that will allow you to update the host without modifying Cluster setings
