You get one of the following error messages when you try to install ESXi 5.0 or ESXi 5.1:
- fatal error: 32 (Syntax)
- fatal error: 4 (unsupported)
- command line is empty
One workaround is to disable UEFI or EFI bios (see VMware KB 2007475)
But if you change your BIOS as recommanded and still see this issue, you can try the following workaround:
- download an ESXi 6.x iso file
- extract the .iso file
- take these files: EFI\boot\BOOTX64.EFI and BOOTIA32.EFI
- and put them into the same path in your ESXi 5.x.iso
Use this adapted ESXi.iso to install your ESXi host and it will work!
